Comments on Well Below (demo) (LoFi HiFi) by The Fear Drone project -Troy Therrien:

I can't believe that this hasn't been commented on yet... Let me begin by saying that the production is exactly on the mark... a moody, atmospheric trip into darker territory... yet there's plenty of drive. Truly lush, like visiting a strange forbidden garden.
I don't see this as a mood piece, however. The writing's much stronger than that, with plenty of hooks in a relatively complex structure, which os another thing that I love about it...
And then there's the vocals, which push this all the way into pop accessibility, while maintaining a wonderful uniqueness.
I could go on, and on... but if you would, just allow me to say that this has all of the qualities that I look for in independent music, and I sure do hope that there's a lot more where it came from.
Finally, it sounds like much more than a demo to me :)) (Very Happy)

I must agree with woof on this, well said.. I really love the feel in this. the style may be hard to describe, but whats wrong with undescribably awesome?

This is amazing. Can something be terrifying and heart-warming at the same time? Apparently so. Great stuff.

Man... this is incredible. The atmosphere you create is so dark... i love it. The production of the track is at a very high standard, although i would say it seems quite bass heavy. Not sure what it sounds like on other sound systems though.

The introduction is brilliant, drawing us straight in.. its almost like a passage into ur mind.... fantastic break down around the phone call.

At 2:25 there seems to be a jump which seems to disturb the flow of the track..

Apart from that this is fantastic.. can't wait to hear your others.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the great comments...awesome!
Yeah, there seems to be area's of the song which seemingly 'clip' and yes, disturb the tracks flow. I'm not sure what causes this becuase it's in different places in each download..?? Thanks for the heads up Marc!
Thank you again everyone, for taking the time to listen and comment on this song.

This is amazing!! Reminds me a little of Bauhaus vocal-wise, but the music is much more imaginative. OOO!! I love how the bass drops for a couple of seconds when the phone is hung up. I don't know if that was intentional, but what a nice touch. I would love to hear more - throw me a shout when you have more posted.

It's all been said, really, but I just want to reiterate the fact that your vocal layering has an amazing effect on the mood of this one! That kind of sampling only comes with hellified practice or good genes, and I envy you either. It's too bad I've only got a stuffy old pair of earbuds as I have a feeling I'm missing a lot on this one. That's one of the troubles with posting music, half the time people are only able to appreciate half of what you're doing, as they'll be pumping your hard work through equipment like these ancient nubs. Anyway, even with my limited listening capacity, top-notch. Please, drop me a shout or a note when you've uploaded more work.

Wow, this is an awesome track. I love the rich layers you build up - and the vocal harmonies are amazing. As everyone says this has great atmosphere and really draws the listener in.

The subversively psychotropic quality of this took hold right off the bat for me. The mood was immediate and unquestionable, and while the tune didn't deviate from it, it never struck me as predictable. The feel was consistent without seeming like a collection of obvious choices.
It put me in mind of "Obscured by Clouds"-era Pink Floyd...not so much in the sounds as in "the sound" and what it did to my meager gray matter.

Great guitar and vocals in the opening. I like the cracked voice at places. Nice progression, great change at 0:55 or so - and great build up back to the main tune. Very good use of cymbals, love the sparse guitars at 2:00. Nicely kept short, but I personally would have liked a different ending (with the vocals straining a bit more to be heard and a more hectic progression). Nice one, in any case!

I love the use of voices in songs, like this one on the phone. Your vocals and style in this song remind me a tiny bit of Dave Navarro solo. If you don't like being compared then ignore what I just said. It's just something that happens naturally to me.
Thumbs up though, and let us know when you make any more stuf.

Dark, intense and thoroughly compelling.

My shitty speakers can't handle all the low frequencies, although I don't agree with akis23, I think the deep bass rumble really adds to the psychotic feeling. if this track was all trebly and tweety it would just be another ballad, but the obscurity and darkness of the bass is what really makes it for me.

The drums are phenomenal, also.

Yup, "bass boost" should only be used for songs that LACK low-end. (I suspect akis23 had it on.) There is NOT too much bass/low-end on this, there is just the RIGHT amount!

AWSOME tune.

which is really cool, very dark and moody, but starkly beautiful (if that makes any sense...

Oh, by the way, I never noticed the "jump" that was mentioned around 2:25 so unless you fixed it, maybe it was just a clip from the player Marc was using? Not sure but it flowed very well.
